Transportation engineering

Transportation engineering or transport engineering is the application of engineering and scientific principles to the planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation, and management of transportation systems and facilities to provide the safe, efficient, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods. Transportation engineering encompasses the planning, design, construction, maintenance, operation, and management of highway, railway, air, pipeline, and water transportation systems and facilities, including travel demand forecasting, traffic operations, logistics, network analysis, financing, and transportation policy. Highway engineering, railroad engineering, port and harbor engineering, and airport engineering are subdisciplines of transportation engineering.
