- Leighton, Robert (1858-1934); born at Ayr [Scotland]; educated at Liverpool; at the age of fourteen he took up work in local journalism and moved to London in 1879 where he became editor of Young folks, 1884-85; with his wife Mary Connor Leighton, whom he married in 1889, he co-authored a number of serial novels for the Harmsworth journal, Answers; on his own account, Leighton wrote a string of historical romances; later in life wrote a number of books on the subject of dogs ( (Sutherland, J.
