Velehrad is a municipality and village in Uherské Hradiště District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,100 inhabitants. The village proper is located on the Salaška Stream in the Chřiby highlands. Velehrad is known for its former Cistercian monastery with the Basilica of the Assumption of Mary and Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is the most famous Christian pilgrimage site in the country. It is protected as a national cultural monument.
