Hutchings and Company, which included a grocery and liquor store; fled to Boston as Frederick Wilkins or Frederick Jenkins (1850); became a waiter at the well-regarded Cornhill Coffee House where he was arrested and taken to the courthouse; traveled to Cambridge and then to Concord, Massachusetts; reached Montreal; operated several restaurants in Old Montreal (the mid-1850s); operated a barbershop in a community of free blacks in Montreal (by 1859); his case was one of four famous Boston fugitive slave cases that tested the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law; died 13 December 1875 in United States)
