Her father, Rabbi Samuel ben Netanel Ha-Levi Barzani gave her a rare education in Hebrew, Torah, Talmud, Midrash, and Kabbalah. She was a scholar and poet. Osnat is remembered as the first female rabbi and first female Kurdish leader.)
