- Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, Hall of Holography Collection (website), viewed October 17, 2018(Alessandro Lessona; Italian official, politician, and sports director; commonly believed to have been born in 1891, but some sources report birth date 1887; he was the longest-running hierarch of Fascism, and the last to survive; graduated 1910 as a cavalry lieutenant from Royal Academy of Infantry and Cavalry of Modena; took part in the First World War; joined the Fascists in 1922; president of the Italian Tennis Federation 1928-1939; one of the protagonists of Italian colonial politics: undersecretary at the Ministry of Colonies 1929-1936; at the outbreak of the Ethiopian war he played a major role in removing General Emilio De Bono from command of the North Front and entrusting it to the Marshal of Italy, Pietro Badoglio, in late 1935; present at the march on Addis Ababa 5 May 1936, appointed head of the Italian Ministry of Africa, in 1936, remained in office until the end of 1937; in November 1938 Mussolini had him removed from every institutional position due to charges of corruption etc.; he moved to Rome, remained as full professor of political science until retirement; chair of Colonial Political History (later renamed History and Institutions of Afro-Asian Countries); joined the Italian Social Movement (MSI); in 1963 election he obtained a seat in the Senate with the Social Movement; not reelected five years later, withdrew from public life)
