The relationship between Nordisk films dompagni, the Great Northern Film Company and the Great Northern Special Feature Film Company was complicated. In 1908, Nordisk opened an affiliate in New York City, the Great Northern Film Company, with Ingvald C. Oes, as the general manager. In In 1911,Oes formed his own distribution company, the Great Northern Special Feature Film Company, using the Great Northern name and the Nordisk logo without permission from Nordisk. In the fall of 1912, Oes claimed to have liquidated the Great Northern Special Feature Film Company, but in December 1912, Nordisk learned that the company was still releasing Nordisk films. Great Northern Special Feature Film Company copyrighted a film in1914, but does not appear in trade journals after the closing of the Great Northern Film Company in 1916.
