- Charles, Duke of Orléans; Charles of Orléans; born November 24, 1395 in Paris, died January 5, 1465 in Amboise; Duke of Orléans from 1407; also Duke of Valois, Count of Beaumont-sur-Oise and of Blois; accomplished medieval poet; acceded to the duchy of Orléans after his father's assassinatioin by the Duke of Burgundy; captured at the Battle of Agincourt and imprisoned by the English; held hostage in England for twenty-four years; during this time he wrote most of his poetry in French and in English; allowed to return to France in 1440 ( (Wikipedia, October 3, 2022) )
