  • Telegraph WWW site, viewed Apr. 12, 2016(Jeremy Siepmann; Jeremy Tyler Siepmann was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 16 1942; died April 6 2016; pianist, teacher, writer and broadcaster who carved an entertaining niche bringing to life the works of the great composers through a multitude of books, recordings and broadcasts; his many outlets included Gramophone, Musical Times and the BBC Music Magazine, where his reviews - particularly of piano music - were forthright, informative and readable; the recordings in Siepmann's "Life and Works" series for Naxos Records, which he wrote and narrated, each focused on a different composer; lectured at the University of London, wrote biographies of Chopin, Brahms and Mozart, and presented programmes for Radio 3; by his early twenties Siepmann was something of a fixture in American broadcasting circles; the conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent persuaded him to move to Britain; in 1973 Siepmann placed a classified advert in The Times for "seriously interested pupils" and his piano teaching career soon took off; with his encyclopedic knowledge of recordings and repertoire, Siepmann was a good choice as head of music for the BBC World Service in 1988; in 1997 he became editor of Piano magazine)
