- Ernest Dichter research reports, 1937-1988:processing notes (Ernest Dichter; b. Aug. 14, 1907 at Vienna; d. Nov. 21, 1991 near Peekskill, N.Y.; pioneer in consumer motivational research; Ph.D. from the University of Vienna, 1934; came to the U.S. as a refugee, 1938; worked for the J. Stirling Getchell advertising agency and for the Columbia Broadcasting System at New York City; operated a consulting business under a variety of firm names, including the Institute for Research in Mass Motivations (1952) and the Institute for Motivational Research, Inc. (1955), in suburban Montrose, N.Y., and later at Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., with branch offices in London, Zurich and Frankfurt, including the Ernest Dichter International Institut für Motiv- und Marketingforschung; the German and Swiss offices were continued after his retirement by others)
