  • New York times, 25 May 2021:in an article on page D8 entitled, "Lessons from a man who pioneered masks" (Dr. Wu Lien-Teh; born Ngoh Lean Tuck on Penang, an island off the coast of Peninsular Malaysia, died in 1960 in Malaysia, aged 80; helped change the course of a plague epidemic in the 20th century; at 17 Dr. Wu won a scholarship to study at Emmanuel College [Cambridge University] in England, and he stayed to study medicine at St. Mary's Hospital in London; Wu then studied infectious diseases at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and the Pasteur Institute in Paris; in 1908 Dr. Wu was appointed vice director of the Imperial Army College near Beijing [China], making him well placed to investigate when people began dying from an unknown disease in Manchuria [in late 1910])
