- Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992:page 375 ("Simon Girty" born near Harrisburg, Pa. in 1741. Captured by the Seneca at age 15 and lived with them for three years. After his release he served as an interpreter at Fort Pitt until 1774. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Virginia militia, later discharged. Employed by the British governor from 1778 until his death as a scout and an interpreter. Lived in Kentucky, Ohio, and at Amherstburg, Ontario. Died February 18, 1818.)
