- John Sinclair, poet; also John Alexander Sinclair, Jr.; born October 2, 1941 in Flint, Michigan; died April 2, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan; American poet, writer, and political activist; founding member of the White Panther Party; after being arrested for marijuana distribution in 1969, his 10-year prison sentence was widely criticized and galvanized strong counterculture resistance, including the John Sinclair Freedom Rally in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1971, and on March 9, 1972 he was freed by the Michigan Supreme Court ( (Wikipedia, 13 May 2025) )
