- Raymond Moley; died February 18, 1975; professor, presidential advisor, and director of the Cleveland Foundation; born in Berea, Ohio; attended Baldwin University from 1902-1906 and received an A.M. (1913) from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. (1918) from Columbia University in political science; taught political science at Western Reserve University from 1916-1919; served as head of local and state Americanization boards during World War I; taught at Columbia's Barnard College from 1923-1954; wrote many speeches and advised FDR during his presidency; was a senior advisor to many Republican presidential candidates in the 20th century; received the Medal of Freedom in 1970 ( (Encyclopedia of Cleveland History website, September 11, 2025) )
