- José Toribio Medina Zavala; born October 21, 1852 in Santiago; at the age of 13 he began his studies in humanities with distinctions in Latin and literature at the the Instituto Nacional (1865-1869); law degree from the Universidad de Chile (1873); bibliophile; bibliographer; historian; editor of several works on the colonial history and literature of Chile and Latin America; parents were José del Pilar Medina y Valderrama and Mariana Zavala Almeida; appointed Secretario de la Legación Chilena in Lima (1874) and Madrid (1884); professor who became affiliated with the Facultad de Filosofía, Humanidades y Artes of the Universidad de Chile in 1897; donated his library to the Biblioteca Nacional which became the Biblioteca Americana José Toribio Medina (1925); died in December 11, 1930 in Santiago, Chile; author of several works including Los aboríġenes de Chile (1882) and La medicina y los médicos en la Real Universidad de San Felipe (1928) ( (Biblioteca Nacional de Chile website, May 26, 2021:) )
