- Lutyens (née Bulwer-Lytton), Lady Emily, theosophist; born on 26 December 1874 in Paris; met the architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens (1869-1944); They were married in August 1897; discovered the new religion of theosophy through the Mallets, French clients of her husband; was promoted by Mrs Besant to the esoteric section of the Theosophical Society and appointed English representative of the Order of the Star in the East; a feminist, a vegetarian, and a socialist; died at her home, 2 Hyde Park Street, Paddington, London, on 3 January 1964 ( (Oxford dictionary of national biography WWW site, 15 Nov., 2017) )
