- אויגן קולב = Oigen Ḳolb [voc.]; Eugene Kolb [in rom.]; Kolb Jenő; Jewish Hungarian Israeli art critic and art theorist; b. 21 Feb. 1898 in Sopron, Hungary; studied art at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München and at Universität Wien; worked as an art editor for Singer and Wolfner publishers; in 1939 joined the adult group of the Shomer ha-tsaʻir and active in the Histadrut ha-Tsiyonit; a survivor of the Kastner train which was diverted from its Hungary to Switzerland journey with a stop at Bergen-Belsen; kept a diary while at Bergen-Belsen that was later published in German translation; arrived in Switzerland in 1944 where, as a refugee, he wrote for the journal ha-Mishmar; immigrated to E. Israel 1946 and mastered the Hebrew language; appointed director of Muzeʼon Tel Aviv in 1952; died of a heart attack in 1959 in his Givʻatayim home; publications in Hebrew and Hungarian ( (Hebrew Wikipedia, viewed 28 July 2025) )
