Jurek Adin was born on April 23rd, 1933 to parents Leon and Ruta in Warsaw, and survived the 1939 Warsaw bombing. When the Gestapo came to Jurek's residence, they searched the house, finding an anti-Hitler book and imprisoned his father. Jurek and his mother relocated to the Jewish ghetto, living with extended family. During an action, Jurek had many close moments with death, but managed to survive. Jurek decided to escape from the ghetto, living on the Aryan side, living house to house, always at risk of being caught. Jurek resided with a nurse who was responsible for German prisoners. To guarantee Jurek's safety, the nurse paid for his baptism, selling all her belongings. No one suspected Jurek's Jewish identity and the priest visited often. After liberation, he and the nurse, relocated to Roszalyn. Distant relatives from America located Jurek's whereabouts and wanted to bring him to America, though he wished to stay in Poland.
