Curating Corona: Help Us Document This Historic Period!

What will we remember of the COVID-19 pandemic ten years from now? How about fifty years? Or even 500 years? Will the pandemic that has changed our world over the past two years be remembered as a brief passing episode in the history books, or will it still be shaping people's lives decades from now?

It is possible that in a few years, maybe a decade or two, this current period will be forgotten. In any case, it will certainly not be as meaningful as it is today – in terms of our health, our livelihood, our daily lives, our children, you name it. So while it is difficult to predict the future, what we do know is that this pandemic must be documented. We must make a special effort to preserve information about the current situation, as much as possible, for future generations, because of course not everything is saved, documented and uploaded to our various virtual clouds.

Curating Corona

The National Library of Israel's "Curating Corona" initiative is reaching out to the public and asking for your help in documenting and preserving online information, media coverage, large-scale events, public dilemmas and anything that appears interesting or important concerning COVID-19 in the Israeli digital arena. The material that is collected and preserved will include everything – medical information published in the early months of the pandemic; routes traced by the early numbered patients; various dilemmas and arguments for and against lockdowns; debates over vaccines; public and political events influenced by the pandemic – anything that may interest scholars and the general public in two, three or ten generations. Our primary focus is on internet websites, blogs and Twitter accounts.
