Examines research and published documents on Hitler's attitude toward Zionism in response to claims in 2016-17 by British Labor politicians, including former mayor of London Ken Livingstone and former parliamentarian George Galloway, that Hitler had supported Zionism in the 1930s. Contends that academic studies and available documents show the Nazis' consistent pre-war enmity to the establishment of a Jewish state far from supporting a Jewish homeland, during World War II the Nazis even considered bombing Jerusalem on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. Before the war, the Nazis accepted immigration to Palestine, but only as a way of expelling Jews from Europe. In 1937, when it appeared that the Zionist project might succeed, officials in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in its office on Jewish affairs withdrew their support for immigration to Palestine. They feared that the success of Zionism might create another base for world Jewry during the coming war. Argues that Livingstone's and his supporters' primary aim in claiming that Hitler supported Zionism is to tarnish Zionism. They intentionally confuse collaboration with desperation on the part of the Zionists, and ascribe fictitious attributes to the Third Reich.
