| Description |
Harand was born a Roman Catholic in Vienna. She was an early organizer of protests against Nazi Germany's persecutions of Jews. She started the Harand Movement, an organization called Weltbewegung gegen Rassenhass und Menschennot (World Movement Against Racial Hatred and Human Suffering), in 1933 and actively campaigned throughout Europe before World War II. When Germany invaded Austria in 1938, Harand was lecturing in London she soon emigrated from there to the United States, where she lived for the rest of her life. In 1969 she received the title of a Righteous among the Nations from Yad Vashem for her actions against Nazi antisemitism.
