Title The Jasenovac death camp and the Jews : reality and revisionism.
Original Library/publisher Jews in Eastern Europe. Jerusalem
Host Item Jews in Eastern Europe (Jerusalem) 3 [37] (1998) 38-51
Description Surveys briefly the policy of the puppet pro-German Independent State of Croatia toward the Jews. Discusses the concentration camps set up in Croatia. The biggest one was Jasenovac
between 20-25,000 Jews were murdered there. The tendency to minimize the number of victims who perished in Jasenovac and to distort the nature of the camp (which is claimed to be a labor camp) began in Croatia in the 1970s. Some writers, including President Franjo Tudjman, alleged that the number of Jewish victims of Jasenovac was insignificant - that its main victims were Serbs and Gypsies. Now, Croatia tends to see in the wartime Croatian state its legitimate predecessor and tries to minimize the crimes committed in that state.
