| Description |
Discusses the "Capitula de tonsura monete, " articles of inquest issued in 1279 to special judicial commissions created to combat coin-clipping and related monetary offenses by Jews and Christians. In addition to fighting debasement of the currency, the "Capitula" were probably intended to fight corruption among officials and help the Crown confiscate property of convicted coin-clippers, especially Jews. Attributes the continued circulation of the text after the expulsion of the Jews from England in 1290 to continued abuses by non-Jews and royal desire to gain control of former Jewish property.
