Between 31 October-10 November 1905, attacks against Jews occurred in 660 settlements (cities, towns, and villages) in Russia. More than 800 Jews were murdered, more than 1,000 wounded, and there was much looting and destruction of property. On 14-16 June 1906 a pogrom broke out in Bialystok 70 Jews were murdered. On 8-11 September 1906, 30 Jews were murdered in Siedlec (Poland). Discusses in detail the lack of protest of the French foreign ministers Maurice Rouvier and, from March 1906, Leon Bourgeois of the French ambassador to Russia Maurice Bompard, and French consular officials of the French press and of official Jewish organizations. The only protests came from left-wing circles who organized demonstrations, the two Jewish newspapers, the Alliance Israelite Universelle and the Rothschild Family, both of which organized financial aid. States that although antisemitism was widespread among French conservatives and Catholics, the foreign office's failure to react was not due to antisemitism but to fear of antagonizing the Russian ally. The French press was bribed by Russian agents not to criticize Russian policy. French Jewish organizations were afraid to arouse accusations of disloyalty to French interests.
