Ownership history The materials were part of a larger collection of historical documents, most of them from the written estate of Max Brod, which have been confiscated by the German Federal Police in Wiesbaden around 2015. Although very different in their content, the local court (Amtsgericht) in Wiesbaden decided on July 30, 2018 that these correspondences of the (non-Jewish) Bangert family and others were apparently part Max Brod's estate, since they origin from the same period and no further explanation about their acquisition history was priveded by neither side. Together with the stolen items from Brod's archive, these corrensondences were transferred to the National Library by the German police in May 2019.
Language Note The materials are mostly in German, few postcards are in Dutch and Danish.
