Portraits by David Mordecai, Calcutta
Enlarge text Shrink textDescription
6 enlarged photographic prints, two of them in color, showing the Jamal Twins posing in traditional customs of bally dancers. These studio portraits were all photographed by the Indian-Jewish photographer David Mordecai (1909-1973) in Calcutta. Three of the prints were mounted to card-boards. All photographs are signed by the photographer. Apparently, they were created on different occasions, during the few visits of the Jamal Sisters in India, between 1954 and 1957.
