Not having received any acknowledgement and not knowing whether any of the packets and newspapers sent monthly, have reached its destination Douglas makes some assumptions that post is being intercepted (maybe at Bonaparte instance, to obtain intelligence). He continues to write to his brother on family and common acquaintances tidings, and reports on news he reads in newspapers.
