Piyut Interpretation

  • • אַתָּה קָדוֹשׁ וְשִׁמְךָ קָדוֹשׁ - האל הוא קדוש, ושמו שמייצג אותו בעולם, נתפס כקדוש גם הוא. ראו למשל ישעיהו ה, טז: "וְהָאֵל הַקָּדוֹשׁ נִקְדָּשׁ בִּצְדָקָה", ותהלים צט, ג: "יוֹדוּ שִׁמְךָ גָּדוֹל וְנוֹרָא קָדוֹשׁ הוּא".

    • וּקְדוֹשִׁים בְּכָל יוֹם יְהַלְלוּךָ סֶּלָה - על פי חזון ישעיהו (פרק ו וכן יחזקאל פרק ג). על פי פירוש אחד, הקדושים הם ישראל שנקראים 'קדושים' (ראו ויקרא יט, ב: "דַּבֵּר אֶל כָּל עֲדַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵהֶם קְדֹשִׁים תִּהְיוּ כִּי קָדוֹשׁ אֲנִי ה' אֱלֹהֵיכֶם"); על פי פירוש שני, הקדושים הם המלאכים, השרפים והאופנים שנקראים כולם קדושים, ומהללים בכל יום את האל: "וְקָרָא זֶה אֶל זֶה וְאָמַר קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ קָדוֹשׁ ה' צְבָאוֹת מְלֹא כָל הָאָרֶץ כְּבוֹדוֹ". תמונה זו היא הבסיס לקדושה שנאמרת בחזרת הש"ץ.

    • סֶּלָה - מילה המופיעה בעיקר במזמורי התהלים (ובמופעים בודדים בספר חבקוק). על פי חז"ל משמעותה 'לנצח' או 'לעד' ולפיכך הפירוש יהיה 'יהללוך לעד'. בחלק ממזמורי התהלים המילה 'סלה' משמשת לציון הוראות הביצוע המוזיקלי. ניתן לטעון שהנוסח הוא עיבוד של תהלים פד, ה: "אַשְׁרֵי יוֹשְׁבֵי בֵיתֶךָ עוֹד יְהַלְלוּךָ סֶּלָה" - אם כי ייתכן שהמילה הועתקה מהפסוק, שבו שימשה כהוראה מוזיקלית, אך איבדה את משמעותה המקורית.

    • כִּי אֵל מֶלֶךְ גָּדוֹל וְקָדֹושׁ אָתָּה - הנימוק מופיע רק בנוסח ספרד והוא מדגיש את הפן של יראת הרוממות, כינוי האל בתואר 'מלך' בכל ימות השנה ולא רק בעשרת ימי תשובה. ראו למשל: "כִּי אֵל מֶלֶךְ גָּדוֹל וְקָדֹושׁ אָתָּה" (תהלים צה, ג).
