  • אהוד מנור כתב את השיר על בית הוריו בבנימינה, שבו אכן היתה המשפחה נוהגת לשבת על המרפסת שבנה האב, והגפן שטיפסה עליה הניבה ענבים אדומים. הילדים שיחקו בין הבית לבין השדות והענן המוזכר בשיר הוא ענן האבק שעלה מחצבת "אבן וסיד" הסמוכה. הפרט היחיד שאיננו זהה למציאות הוא העובדה שמן המרפסת בבנימינה יכלו לראות רק את שקיעת השמש ולא את זריחתה. נורית הירש סיפרה למעריב על השיר: "השיר הזה הוא דוגמה למהפך מוזיקלי. במקור הלחנתי לחן עם קצב איטי, אולי מתוך הזדהות עם אהוד שהנציח בו את אחיו יהודה, שנפל זמן קצר קודם לכן. שלמה צח זיהה בשיר משהו אופטימי. 'תנגני את זה יותר מהר', הוא הציע בחושיו הבריאים, ורוח הנכאים נעלמה מהשיר. אהוד, שהיה גאון בכתיבת שירים, שינה את המילים. במקום 'השמש תשקע בתוכן', הוא כתב 'השמש תזרח בתוכן'".
