As a result, the Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) was destroyed. Houses and shops were burnt; Jews were deprived of their possessions (jewels, pieces of furniture, crockery, clothes...). This postcard shows the result of this tragic event: We can see the destroyed Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) of Fes, and more particularly the ruins of the French post office. At its bottom, several Jewish people are standing with a donkey, maybe employees of the post office which have no work anymore. They are traditionally dressed and wear the fez (traditional hat in the shape of a truncated cone).
