It shows a Jewish woman from Constantinople, nobly standing. She is richly and elegantly dressed with a traditional outfit made of precious cloth, which covers completely her body: it is composed of a robe (antari) tightened by a belt (ku?ak), under a long jacket (cepken). She also wears the common headdress: the Turkish hotoz, (also known by the name of halebi). This headdress, which was ball-shaped, was placed on the head and wrapped in one or more shawls to increase its volume. It was an identifying feature of Jewish women in particular. [S.H.]
