Its construction started in 1880 at the initiative of Simon Kanoui, but its inauguration took place only in 1918. The Synagogue was located in the former Boulevard Joffre, renewed Boulevard Maata Mohamed El-Habib. It was one of the largest and the most beautiful synagogues of North Africa. After the Algerian Independence, the synagogue was converted into a mosque in 1975. From its exterior view, the building, built in a Moorish style, emits importance. The central facade, decorated in its upper part by a beautiful rose window, is flanked by two turrets. These ones are themselves accoladed to two dome-shaped wings, one on each side.
