As a result, the Mellah (a walled Jewish quarter of a city in Morocco, an analogue of the European ghetto) was destroyed. Houses and shops were burnt; Jews were deprived of their possessions (jewels, pieces of furniture, crockery, clothes...). This postcard shows the result of this tragic event: In the foreground, we can see a Jewish man, crouching down in the Main Street of the Mellah of Fes. He is alone, apparently destitute of his house. He is traditionally dressed and wears a fes (traditional hat in a shape of a truncated cone). Behind him, we see the destroyed Jewish quarter.
