In the top part of the page, above the >piyyut> for >Shavuot> אאריא מתילין ואחוין (Davidson, I, א No. 26, p. 3) is an illustration of the Eighth Commandment, "Thou shalt not steal". On the right under a trefoil arch, a thief takes out a large red goblet from an open chest, where another goblet sits on a lower shelf. He wears a short tunic and peasant's hat. The top of the chest has a latch and above it is an inscription: לא תגנוב "Thou shalt not steal." On the left, on a decorative platform, is a seated, crowned judge holding a cane and pointing to the thief whose hands are behind his back. Alexander Scheiber interpreted this as representing the story of "Rabba's staff" (Babylonian Talmud, Nedarim 25a, see Scheiber, 1977, pp. 302-303 and Narkiss, 1989, p. 435). The inscription along the cane has been effaced. In the right margin is a pen drawing of a gallows with a knotted rope.
