Scope and content |
saying: "l leave Israel redoubled in the support of the American people for the people of Israel, redoubled in my determination to continue until we have a comprehensive peace". On a more personal note the President said of the country: "It was a wonderful visit. I have deep respect for the reception given us by the people here". The final place Clinton visited was Israel's National Memorial and Museum to the Holocaust, Yad Vashem. There, accompanied by Israel President Ezer Weizman and Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev, he walked down the Avenue of Righteous Among The Nations, kindled the eternal flame, laid a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance, attended a moving ceremony at the Children's Memorial and wrote a note in the Visitors book at the Janosz Korczak Plaza. The previous evening Clinton had addressed the Knesset: - Let us say to the merchants of terror, you cannot succeed, you will not succeed, you must not succeed. You are the past not the future”. The peacemakers are the future". He reaffirmed his ever-strong commitment to Israel in the words of his pastor: “lf you abandon Israel, God will never forgive you...It is God's will that Israel, the biblical home of the people of Israel, will continue forever and ever”. Photo shows: US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary meet the parents of kidnapped and murdered soldier Nahshon Waxsman at the Knesset, October 27, 1994. Nahshon held dual US and Israeli citizenship. His mother immigrated from the US some 25 years ago. |
