Title אבן הפינה לבית הפלמ"ח.
Additional Titles Corner Stone for Beit HaPalmach. [picture]
Scope and content The corner stone was laid today of the Palmach museum near Tel Aviv University in the north of the city. The Palmach was formed in 1941 mainly from the left wing kibbutz movement. The establishment of the Palmach came about by the need of the Jewish settlements to protect themselves from continual Arab attack. The Palmach had at its early members some of the most illustrious names in the history of modern Israel, such as Itzhak Sade, Yigael Allon and Itzhak Rabin. The Palmach was disbanded as a separate organisation when it merged with the IDF in November 1948, following the establishment of the State. The new museum, apart from retelling the story of the Palmach with a permanent exhibition, will have study and educaional facilities. The new complex is expected to be open in three years time. Photo shows: (Ret) General Doron Aharon addressing the audience.
