Title MIMOUNA THROUGHOUT ISRAEL.
Scope and content In Israel the Pesach (Passover) holiday is seven days, The eighth day is known as Isra Hug - binding the festival. It is a semi-holiday that extends the festival by one day and it is mainly celebrated by the Sephardic community of the Moroccan origin all over Israel. The holiday, called the Mimouna, has its origins in North Africa, when families on the last night of Pesach would visit each other and on the following day organize picnics in the countryside. Leading politicians and public figures have by tradition visited various Mimouna sites, although the trend is to depoliticize the event. This year the main central celebration was held in Ashkelon. President Herzog attended a celebration in the north of the country. As in North Africa the Nimouna takes the form of mainly family celebration with good food, singing and dancing. Each Sephardic ethnic group tending to group together in most cases, enjoying their own particular Mimouna traditions in food and entertainment. Photo shows the Independence Park in Ramat San where mainly Sephardim of Moroccan descent celebrate the Mimouna.
