'"יש לה רק חמש שעות להתעורר לאיזה תור, ולראשונה זה זמן רב משהו מתקומם בה נגד העמידה המטופשת הזאת. מאז שאלכס נעלם, משהו אצלה השתבש בסדר היום, והיא כבר לא מצליחה להגיע ראשונה או שנייה כמו פעם. מקומה הזדנב לאמצע התור, ולפעמים אפילו לקראת הסוף. היא לא מבינה אם זאת היא שמאחרת, או אחרים שמקדימים, אבל בטוחה שמשהו אצלה יצא מאיזון". שרה, אישה בת 45, עומדת בתור לחיים, בתור לאֲבדון, בתור לביטוח לאומי, בתור למבצע בסופר... ויום אחד זה קורה – התור מְזַמן לה מסע אל תוך נפשה ולעולם מחוצה לה. היא לא התכוונה למסע הזה, אך החיים הובילו אותה אליו. הבא בתור הוא רומן ייחודי בכתיבתו – משחק מילים ודימויים מכלום ועד הכול. הוא משקף חיים שאף אחד לא בוחר, ובכל זאת כולם מכירים. שרה היא גיבורה אפרורית שגם אם לא תתקרבו אליה, קרוב לוודאי שתוקירו את מאמציה הנואשים לַחבור לחיים. זה הרומן השמיני של תמי גיל. כשאר ספריה שראו אור, גם ספר זה מאופיין בייחודו – טשטוש גבולות בין עבר להווה, בין גוף ראשון לשלישי ובין דמיון למציאות, עד ש... גם הגיבורה לא תמיד יודעת אם היא הדוברת של עצמה או של דמות מעברה'. -- מהמעטפת האחורית.
