BookMemoirs of an Orthodox Jew who was born ca. 1925 in Vişea, Romania, and grew up in Şieu (Maramureş). In April 1944, under Hungarian occupation, the Jews of Şieu were rounded up and interned in the Dragomireşti ghetto. In May they were deported to Auschwitz, where many were killed upon arrival. Perl was sent to Buchenwald and then to the Mittelbau-Dora labor camp. Describes his experiences in the labor camp, as well as those of other Jews. In April 1945 he was sent on a death transport to Bergen-Belsen, where he was liberated. After the war he went to France; he immigrated to Israel in 1949.
