Les juifs dans la banlieue parisienne

A study based on archival material and on interviews carried out in the 1980s-90s with Holocaust survivors and their families. Discusses events in three suburbs of Paris, inhabited in the interwar period by many Jewish immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe. Describes their professional, social, and political life before the war. Traces the stages of persecution after the Nazi occupation and under the Vichy regime, including Aryanization and deportation, and traces the fate of specific families. Lists the names of Jews arrested in roundups and interned in Drancy. Deals, as well, with the activities of the UGIF, especially the establishment of children's homes for Jewish orphans. The last part of the book describes the postwar years in these suburbs, and the issue of restitution of Jewish property. Includes many photographs and illustrations. Pp. 365-400 contain a chronological list of the deportation convoys, and a name list of those deported from the suburbs studied, with biographical information on each person.
