Traces Nazi anti-Jewish measures as they affected Jews in Erlangen (117 Jews in 1933). Nazism was popular in the town (located near Streicher's Nuremberg) already during the Weimar period; and it was one of the earliest to initiate anti-Jewish measures. Antisemitism was also rife at the university. In 1929, nationalistic students demanded a numerus clausus; and in 1933 the theological faculty issued a statement in support of the "Aryan paragraph" in the Church. The town was inundated by virulent antisemitic propaganda in the local and regional press, films such as "Der ewige Jude", and indoctrination in schools and organizations. Describes the isolation and impoverishment of the Jews, numerous arrests on trumped-up charges (already in 1933), the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, and the deportations.
