In Hungarian (pp. 1-274), with an abbreviated English (pp. 275-340) and Hebrew (66 pp.) version. Pp. 67-84 of the Hebrew section contain an essay on the history of Košice in Yiddish, by Shraga Feri (Shraga Feivish Halperin). The original Hungarian version is published from the manuscript held by Yad Vashem. Relates the 500-year history of Jews in Kassa (Hungary) - after World War I, Košice (Slovakia). Focuses on the 20th century, the events of the two World Wars, and the fate of Košice's Jews. In fall 1938, Kosice reverted back to Hungary. In January 1940 the majority of Jewish businesses were closed down. Men of military age were conscripted into forced labor units. With the German invasion of Hungary in 1944, the Jews of Košice (ca. 12,000) and of surrounding areas were concentrated in two brick factories, and in May-June 1944 they were deported to Auschwitz. Ca. 600 Jews returned after the war. (From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism - The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
