Ernst Bloch, messianisme et utopie

Enlarge text Shrink text

Ch. 4 (pp. 51-61), "L'analyse blochienne de l'antisémitisme et du fascisme", summarizes Bloch's theory on the origin of antisemitism (elaborated in "Das Prinzip Hoffnung"), and remarks on the similarities with Adorno's and Horkheimer's ideas. Bloch enlarged the Marxist explanation of modern antisemitism with a sociological theory on the "non-contemporaneity" of the mass's consciousness. In conflict with capitalist industrial society, the archaic and backward mentality of the masses favored the appearance of fascist ideology and primitive antisemitic reactions.
