National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is a national public research university in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Founded in Beijing in 1911, it moved to Taiwan after the Chinese Civil War under president Mei Yiqi and was reestablished in 1956. The university remains independent and distinct from Tsinghua University in Beijing. The university is part of a leading research and innovation cluster of multiple universities and institutes in Taiwan, along with neighboring Hsinchu Science Park. The university consists of 12 colleges or schools, 26 departments and 31 graduate institutes affiliated to NTHU. The college of Nuclear Science of NTHU is the sole educational and research institution focusing on the peaceful applications of nuclear power in Taiwan. NTHU is affiliated with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Central University and National Chengchi University as part of the University System of Taiwan (UST). NTHU has educated a wide range of notable alumni, including Nobel Prize laureates Yang Chen-Ning and Yuan Tseh Lee.
