Estusia Szajn was born in 1933 to Lola and Markus in Turko by Stryj. Unclear from her deposition what happened to her parents. She testifies how they were beaten by their Ukrainian neighbors during the Aktion in their hometown, and then the transportations. She was almost shot a few times but convinced the Ukrainians to let her go. Estusia hid with the the Komornicki family together with their ten children in their village, until Volksdeutsche tried to force them to give her over to the Germans. They dug a ditch covered with branches for her in the forest where she stayed until the winter rains. The family children brought her some food from time to time or she picked berries. She stayed with this family for about two years. After liberation by the Russians she was taken to the Jewish community. At the time of the interview she lived in an orphange in Bielsko.
