Chosen as emissary to Ethiopia. Organized teachers' seminar. Discusses: development of conversion problem; Rabbi Herzog's declaration that all Ethiopian Jews must be converted; Bugala's role as contact person; idea of establishing farm since many Ethiopians worked in agriculture; working with local officials; encountering traditions that were new to him (eg. strict observance of purity rituals); the Jewish youth and their devotion to studies; strong desire to come to Eretz Yisrael; group of new Olim in Kfar Batya - their studies in Judaism and preparation for Aliyah.
