Dr. Nachum Israel Wahrmann (1895 Podhajce (Pidhaitsi), Eastern Galicia - 1961 Kiryat Motzkin), rabbi; from 1919 to 1924 he studied at the universities of Frankfurt a. M. and Giessen. In the years 1925 to 1929 Wahrmann continued his studies at the "Jüdisch-Theologisches Seminar" (JTS) in Breslau, and obtained his doctorate in 1926 at the University of Giessen. From 1929 to 1939 Wahrmann was district rabbi in Oels (Oleśnica), Lower Silesia; in 1939 he emigrated to Palestine and was a teacher in Kiryat Motzkin from 1939 until his retirement in 1953.--

The collection contains Wahrmann's files from his time as a district rabbi in Oels 1929-1939, as well as his correspondence as a district rabbi with various Jewish communities, associations and organizations, such as "Verband der Synagogen-Gemeinden der Provinz Niederschlesien", or "Preußischer Landesverband Jüdischer Gemeinden". Nachum Israel Wahrmann (1895 Podhajce (Pidhaitsi), Eastern Galicia - 1961 Kiryat Motzkin), rabbi
son of the businessman Israel W. and his wife Etie, née Silber. Up to the age of seventeen he devoted himself mainly to the study of the Talmud and Hebrew literature. In 1913 he went to Frankfurt a. M., attended a private school and passed his high school exam at the Sachsenhausen high school in 1918. He served in the Austrian army until September 1919, and from 1919 to 1924 he studied at the universities of Frankfurt a. M. and Giessen. In the years 1925 to 1929 Wahrmann continued his studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in Breslau, and obtained his doctorate in 1926 at the University of Giessen. From 1929 to 1939 Wahrmann was district rabbi in Oels (Oleśnica), Lower Silesia
from 1933 to 1938 he was a lecturer in Talmudic studies, history and ritual law at the JTS Breslau
in 1939 he emigrated to Eretz Israel and was a teacher in Kiryat Motzkin from 1939 until his retirement in 1953.
