Description

The file contains: Letters and postcards written by Max Brod to his wife Elsa while she was in spa treatments, also a smaller number of correspondence from Max while he was travelling. Included are two envelopes from the Prager Abendblatt to Elsa in Sopot (Zoppot) (7.VI.23, 16.6.23) with a lot of notes on the back, three postcards (17.6.23, 19.VI.23, unreadable stamp), one letter datable to 18.6.23 and one undated letter, mentioned in them is that Brod is working on his novel, that he took a day trip with Kafka, is planning a visit to Elsa on the following weekend, that Felix (Weltsch) is sick, worries about the dollar instability, and warning her about gambling. One envelope has penciled rows of numbers in another hand. Max Brod sent a telegram to Elsa at Paris Hotel des Postes from Prag? which is not datable, a postcard from Nitra (19.Nov. 23), a postcard from Hotel Tatra in Ruzomberok with unreadable date which mentions Zionists, continuing to Bratislava and returning to Prag; a letter (19.XII.23) to Elsa staying with Julius Kestler (cousins of Elsa Brod), about a performance in Prag, five postcards to Hotel de France Vienna (3.XII.24, 8.VI.25 from Karlsbad, ca.25.VI.25, 13.8.25 from Ostia, 16.10.1925). Mentioned are the death of Siegfried (Rosenbaum) Raabe-Jenkins 24.6.1925, and a lot of matters that Elsa should arrange with publishers in Vienna, including the request to continue negotiations.
