Biographical summary יעקב יער נולד במזרח גרמניה בשנת 1929, ובשנת 1935 עלה לארץ ישראל. לאחר לימודיו בתיכון גימנסיה הרצליה התגייס למשטרת היישובים העבריים ולאחר קום המדינה המשיך לשרת בצה"ל. יער למד אדריכלות בטכניון שבחיפה בין השנים 1949–1953. כאדריכל התפרסם בעקבות עבודתו רבת השנים על שימור מרכז יפו העתיקה, ובפרט על רובע האמנים ביפו שבו היה שותף מראשית דרכו המקצועית. יעקב יער זכה בפרסים רבים על עבודותיו האדריכליות, ובשנת 2014 זכה בפרס א.מ.ת. היוקרתי. יער היה פעיל בגופים ציבוריים רבים. בין השאר היה חבר בוועד המנהל של הטכניון, פעיל במועצה לשימור אתרים וכן כיהן בין השנים 1981–1985 כיו"ר אגודת האדריכלים בישראל.
