Robert Slater (1943-2014), a news reporter and an American-Israeli author. The collection includes the texts of dozens of interviews made by Slater with different personnel: Zalman Shoval, Uzi Narkiss, Arie Naor, Rachel Dayan, Haim Israeli, Ruth Dayan, Mordechai Bar-On, Shlomo Gazit, Shimon Agranat, Rehavam Ze'evi, Naphtali Lavie, Abba Eban and others.

Description
The collection consists of tens of interviews that Robert Slater conducted with political and business figures, for his biographies and for various newspaper articles. Among the many interviewees in this collection are Zalman Shoval, Uzi Narkiss, Arye Naor, Eli Rubinstein, Rahel Dayan, Haim Yisraeli, Ruth Dayan, Mordechai Bar-On, Shlomo Gazit, Shimon Agranat, Rehavam Zeevi, Naftali Lavi, Abba Eban, Martin van Creveld, Walter Eytan, and Mordechai Ben-Porat. The collection is divided into two series, one comprising interviews for Slater's book about Moshe Dayan and the other comprising interviews for his book on Golda Meir. The file names are those of the interviewees and the order of the files matches the latest list and physical order that the material was arranged in when deposited in the National Library. Original interview numbers appear in the information about each file. Some of the interviews are written in Slater's handwriting, especially the notes, and some have been transcribed by Slater's wife, Elinor.

Biographical summary Robert Slater was an American author and journalist known for over two dozen books, including biographies of political and business figures such as Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, George Soros, and Donald Trump. His had a B.A. in political from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. from the London School of Economics. He worked for United Press International (UPI) from 1969 to 1971 before moving to Jerusalem, where he worked for UPI until 1974
and for Time magazine in Jerusalem from 1976 to 1996. From 1987 and 1990 he was chairman of the Foreign Press Association in Israel. In his later years he was a columnist for The Jerusalem Report, and mentored young journalists at The Jerusalem Post.
Ownership history The collection was deposited on May 2018 by Robert Slater's widow, Elinor Slater.
